;)
Several people on here have asked me at some point in the past what Germans think of America. One aspect is: we tend to be a bit surprised by the frequency and speed with which people declare their love!! for things and persons and the world in general. We don't love as quickly (nor hate), nor are we as quick with compliments.
And since fifty years ago, most of us would rather die than say something purely patriotic.
(That's something that made me a bit uncomfortable in the US - flags in classrooms, churches (!), everywhere... that simply would not happen in Germany. I would never display a German flag anywhere near me. Strangely, many Germans wear US or UK flags, even if they don't have any connection to these countries. But wearing a shirt with a German flag would instantly be frowned upon - unless it's a soccer team shirt.)
